Movie Review — Nobody
How many middle-aged men did you come across today? Noticed how they are leading their lives in the daily grind? So, let’s assume one of these is our protagonist. His job is mundane, wife is detached and children, ungrateful. Boring enough?
Hold that thought. And get ready for endless, mind-boggling, knuckle-smashing, bone-crushing, and ostentatiously elaborative action scenes. A part of your mind knows you are being served, a cold dish of pure violence, but you would still like to immerse in the delectable bloody flavors of guns, grenades, and knives.
So, this dejected guy (Bob Odenkirk), has a hidden past that no one, note, not even one of the 3 lettered secret agencies of US want to talk about; even though they have all info, hidden under extreme security.
An incident fires up his inner slumbering desire of maddening violence. And hereafter you will be in awe of the handsomely directed action sequences.
For someone like me, the pure joy of watching these fierce, fast-paced, smartly executed scenes could only be matched by the joy you would see in the eyes of, brilliant actor, Bob, at every next opportunity of beating or being beaten. This is an excellent way of characterising any role, that the director doesn’t wish audience to build any sympathy towards. At one instance, you would find him praying, sitting inside a midnight bus, for trouble to enter it and hit him in his face! You would also smile when you realise apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree, when his old man shows up.
Summing up, it’s not for those who give a wide berth to socio-pathic, logic-defying savagery in a movie. But for those who like to refrain from engaging any emotion in fictional movies, this is a delight. Well, you might develop some emotion, if you too have a repressed rage to let out. Do you?
